  1. tarp is good. Old comforters or bedsheets if you have any also will do. They will be colorful too. Or you can buy the plastic table covers you get at the dollar stores and use them.

  2. use fresh hay to spread over the ground

  3. get several big blue tarps from lowe's, home depot, or harbor freight.

they will be able to handle the traffic. you can use the blue as a part of your color scheme for the party.

the added benefit of the tarps is your boy won't have as many things to try to put in his mouth (like the ground and grass).

you could make it really beachy!

My grand-daughter turned 1 on july 4 and she would have tried to eat the yard if we had let her loose, tarps are definately the way to go.

  4. Get a few bales of straw and spread them on the ground. After the party just let the straw decompose.

  5. hmmm, i would go with a more permanent landscaping suggestion like playground mulch, it's attractive, easy, no fuss and could serve as a nice ground cover.

p.s. happy first birthday to your little one, my daughter is turning 1 on the 18th of august :)
