Son Heung-Min admits he turned down Borussia Dortmund to join Bayer Leverkusen – Football News
South Korean international, Son Heung-Min, has admitted that he turned down a move to former Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund to join Bayer Leverkusen. The Factory Squad secured the signing of the attacker from Hamburg for
a modest €10 million fee to replace outgoing winger, Andre Schurrle. Schurrle joined English side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and will be playing under Jose Mourinho next season.
Son claimed that he wanted to stay in the Bundesliga and there were two options. He admitted that there was also interest from Borussia Dortmund as they looked to replace Mario Gotze but the player decided to join the Leverkusen-based
outfit as he will have more first team chances.
The striker added that Dortmund generally use rotation which was the main reason he selected Leverkusen. He stressed that otherwise there was no major issue as both teams will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.
“I wanted to stay in the Bundesliga and Leverkusen and Dortmund wanted me. Both teams play in the Champions League but I thought Dortmund would use rotation more than Leverkusen. That's why I chose Leverkusen over Dortmund. It's
really important to play regularly in my age,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The South Korean international stated that he is looking forward to cement his place in the side for next season. The player admitted that he will have to perform to play more games for the Bundesliga outfit and that he cannot
take his place for granted as Bayer Leverkusen is a big club.
“Any player would want to play in the big games in the Champions League. I know there will still be plenty of competition at Leverkusen and I will prepare for the season well and try to put in good performances when it begins,”
he concluded.
Son Heung-Min made 34 appearances for Hamburg SV last season and scored an impressive 12 goals in the process. The player was linked with a host of clubs in the summer including the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC and Tottenham Hotspur.
However, the attacking winger chose to stay in the German Bundesliga.
