  1. huge fine .

if he is very lucky he may keep his license.

  2. he will be fined and lose his driving privilege for a while.

  3. Some Hwy Patrol officers do this because they have too much paper work as it is to write down everything on the road side. Now, as for the speeding. I don't have all your info.I really need to advise you just what will happen, but let me tell you some ways to save your insurance from going up. ( Let me guess, dad pays the son's insurance ).  Here's one way. If this is your son's first speeding citation don't pay the citation off. You are pleading guilty if you do that, points will go on his license as well as the increase of insurance. On the day of your son's court date, be there early to speak with the DA and ask if your son can plea to a lesser charge, like improper equipment. If the DA allows this you pay the citation fee and court cost. Citations cost around $50.00 and court cost around $130.00. This way no points go on his license and no points means no insurance increase. Your son may have a problem with this, if the DA wants to speak with the officer first and the officer just wants to make it hard on him for laughing while the officer was writing the citation. When you speak with the DA, and if he will not allow the lesser plea. Tell or explain to him that you know the officer had every right to do his job, but you are having to pay for his insurance and just this one time allow the plea and you will make your son wish he had never been speeding. Thank the officer for possible saving your son's life and for doing such a good job keeping our streets safe. This might change the officers mine from making it hard, if you know what I mean. I would like to say one thing as an officer myself. From one father to another, If you know your son is hourse playing around and speeding with his or your vehicle, Please make it hard on him around the house for awhile so he want kill himself or someone else. It's better to have your son a little mad at you and have him around than to just let it go and half to idenify his body !  Good Luck ! I hope this helped !

  4. 82 in a 55 zone is a serious speeding offense!  I doubt your son (LOL "the little idiot") will be laughing when the judge gets through with the lecture and fine.

A conviction on this offense might cost him his license for a while.  I'm sure that the judge will read comments from the officer and impress on your son the serious nature of the offense.

If it were me, I'd make him pay the fine himself.  If the money to pay the fine comes from his pocket it might give him a reason to keep his speed legal in the future.

  5. Go to jail.

  6. There are some states (Virginia is one) where reckless driving (20 over the limit or anything over 80 in VA) can land you jail time, but it's not likely on a first offense.  If the cop wrote "he was laughing" on the ticket I would move to strike the ticket as hearsay.  I suggest you get a lawyer.

  7. He will get a notice in the mail with a price and a due date-if he wants to fight it-which it sounds like he won't-it will also say when to go to court to do so or how to go about it. He will also have it go against him on his car insurance-so I hope you are making him responsible for payment. No-they don't send you to jail for speeding.....
