  1. Well he can fight by requesting a court martial because he has a legitimate reason and witnesses to this situation.  He was where he suppose to be he was doing what he was suppose to be doing they should not garnished his pay thats robbery .... before he goes to mast try ask him to go to the base legal if its possible he can request court martial and you can hire an attorney to defend doesnt matter if active or civilian and prove his case. Someone should have saw this before it riches that he should have got a counseling chit but not this this is wrong. Ive missed a class in A' school similar to this they just give me a mouthful but not this. Tell him to fight it thats straight wrong he should be found innocent and be repayed for those wages they took.

  2. Doesn't matter no point in fighting it just tell him to suck it up and try to make sure it doesn't happen again

  3. Well, he went to MAST for a U/A (Unauthorized Absence) apparently, and was found GUILTY by the COMMANDING OFFICER.  He will lose 1/2 months pay for NO MORE than 2 months.  There is almost NOTHING that can be done about it.

I find it VERY difficult to imagine that there was NO ONE else in his class that didn't go to said class, or that there was NO notice.

An incident like that WILL, hopefully, cause him to pay MUCH more attention to detail.  Check the bulletin boards, pick an outstanding student to alert him to any changes, etc.

I was 2 minutes late to a flight-brief as a student, the "Chief's Board" gave me EMI (Extra Military Instruction):  I had to be 15 minutes EARLY to every briefing for 2 months, and had to assist the SDO (Squadron Duty Officer) with EVERY briefing for 2 weeks when I wasn't flying.

He'll learn to NEVER do that again... amusingly, most who do an "early" Captains Mast for a minor offense like this turn out to be outstanding sailors / airmen.

  4. ALL SOLDIERS ARE ALLOWED TO FILE AN EO OR IG COMPLAINT, IF HE IS TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS, HE MAY HAVE A LEGITIMATE REASON FOR NOT HAVING HIS PAY TAKEN AWAY, TELL HIM TO TALK TO HIS EO REPRESENTATIVE OR IG REPRESENTATIVE.

  5. Some how that doesn't ring true..... IF he wasn't told about it AND he was where he was supposed to be and doing what he was supposed to be doing otherwise the school would have just put him on restriction (just to remind him that he is responsible for knowing what he is supposed to be doing) and had him attend the next class.  My guess is he was told about it, went drinking and forgot about it and was not where he was supposed to be otherwise.  Which would mean he was AWOL and that resulted in the loss of pay.

EDIT:  OK, with your edit, then he should fill out a special request chit and send it through his Chain of Command to request Captain's mast. He was where he thought he was supposed to be, he wasn't trying to avoid anything.  His Div CPO or DIVO will probably take care of the problem before it gets to the CO.

  6. He should try his Chain of Command and see if they are willing to help. Also go to http://www.mynavyonline.com there are retired and active sailors, parents and DEP'rs there. They will help you out, perhaps give you direct links and names of how to help your son. Even better if he has access to the internet.
