  1. I say that is pretty good.  He spells about how my 1st grader spells.  It just takes practice.

  2. What an imagination!! Very creative thinker!

  3. I think that reading, spelling, addition, and subtraction are the most important concepts.

  4. I think his concepts are great!

He is in first grade..he is there to learn...it all doesn't come right away. I think it wold be a mistake to put to much pressure on him and make him do more homework after school. He needs his home time for play..not more work.

  5. You need to save this stuff. In the future, it will be so precious to you. Your son is spelling phonetically, which is not only normal, but shows great intelligence. From what you've written, I'd say you have an extremely intelligent and creative child. Count your blessings!! I just re-read what your child wrote and I am absolutely charmed!! You need to encourage his creativity!!!

  6. Everything is just fine.  That's on par with most other first graders.  Neat story though, let me know when he finishes it.

By the way, it is kind of hilariously ironic that you chose this forum to ask about spelling, given that the average user seems ignorant of even the most basic rules of spelling!

  7. I think he is doing good for a 1st grader!! My son was like that too in the 1st grade. the words he misspelled are pretty tough for his age, and he tried his best! All he needs is practice!

  8. Sorry to say it but his grammar is really unacceptable also. I have seen kindergartners write better paragraphs than that. You should ask for a conference with his teacher to get him additional help.

It would also be useful if you helped him keep a diary of his favorite  activities. That means sit with him and have him write a paragraph under your supervision each day. When he gets the hang of it encourage him to bring in some of the better ones to show his teacher to keep her in the loop too.

  9. His spelling is stellar for a young man in the first grade.

Imaginative, thought provoking, A must read!!!!

  10. Very very nice and cute.  For a 1st grader, the spelling is fine, and kids learn so quickly.  By this time in 2nd grade, all those will be perfect.  You should even save it, and in a year ask him to spell all the words he spelled wrong and you will see the improvement!  Tell him to keep on writing!
