Son of veteran Steve Davis, Greg Davis gives snooker a real go in 2012 Q School
This year’s World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) will witness the continuity of greatness as Greg Davis, son of the all-time greatest Steve Davis, cues up at the Q School to become an official snooker player following his father’s footsteps.
The upcoming Q School event starting from May 2012, right after the 2012 World Snooker Championship, will be featuring Davis Junior along with many other young potters who will test their luck participating in the event.
The Q School tournament will forward 12 amateurs potters to the professional circuit where they will get chance to show their talent to the world.
The 20-year-old Greg, who just finished his university, used to play snooker on low scales in local tournaments. He lives in Sheffield, the City of Snooker, and is currently practising hard to make an appearance in the event because he carries his father’s
name and his repute with him. He will have to be perfect in his game because he inherited snooker from a legendary potter who is equally praised across the world.
Speaking to the World Snooker, Greg said, “I recently left university and I was speaking to my dad about my future, and we agreed I should give snooker a real go. I've treated it like a hobby in the past but now I will take it more seriously. I've been practising
really hard and playing in some pro-am events.”
The youngster added, “At the moment it's really about gaining experience. I'll be giving it everything at Q School but I'm not expecting miracles, I just want to learn as much as I can. Next season I'm going to play in all of the PTC events as I played in
a few of them this season and loved it.”
Greg Davis has played in some low ranked amateur tournaments where he showed some consistent performance to live up to his father’s name. He did not take snooker seriously as a profession for him but used to play occasionally.
However, this time he has made a serious decision to play snooker in its real essence and make a splendid career out of it just like his father.
