Son who is 8. Chest Pains! ?

My son, who is only 8, complains of chest pains. He has hidden it from me for over a year, he claims. (he hates the doctors, worries about needles etc)

Last night I caught him rubbing his chest, and he admitted it hurt. There is no cough, no mucus, just pain that comes and goes he says. Its been on going since he was 7 he admitted.

I listened to his heart, and is sounded normal. But he felt pain when I touched him on his chest. Today he says he feels fine, but

I called the doctor anyway, today and they are fully booked. (I am a slave to the UK, NHS system.) I told them it was his chest, and she, the receptionist said call tomorrow.

Any suggestions on what it could be? I'm worried.

PS: he skips around normally when he's not in pain, and doesnt pant. he is not overweight, but does love his sweets.

I touched his chest just now, and he said "owwww"

  1. billy thinks your kid hurt his chest one day, and is now making up  a story that it hurt for a year just for attention.  sometime kids do this.

why would he hide chest pain for one year? it make no sense.  im 99% sure he is lying and want attention, billy was same way as a kid, but needed good whooping.

  2. Two years ago, my son, who was 8 years old then, also complained of chest pains. I took him to the doctor and they had him see a cardiologist, which took a month to get him in -- it's not much better in the U.S. if you don't have the best insurance coverage.

Anyway, the cardiologist couldn't find anything wrong with him. Later I complained of heart burn and he asked what it felt like. It turns out that's what he was experiencing. Heart burn or trapped gas.

Still, I think it would be a good idea to get him to the specialist as soon as possible. I'm not sure how the U.K. medical system works but could you take him the emergency room at your local hospital, while he's experiencing pain to get it checked out sooner? All they really have to do is a simple EKG test to see if his heart is working normally.

I hope your son is okay. Since the pain seems to come and go with no other symptoms it sounds like it could be indegestion.

  3. if you are in the uk, go to your local pharmacist.

Nowadays they can give advice on those kind of thing.

  4. I would take him to the doctors as soon as humanly possible. Maybe even the Emergency Room. Has he done any activities where he could have broken his ribs? My little brother broke 2 playing football and he had really bad pains. He waited a couple days and finally we decided to take him to the doctor to find he had broken ribs. They don't do anything but give pain medication because they can't really cast the affected area.

I would get him help immediately. Better safe than sorry.

  5. Please take him to a doctor, yahoo answers is not a place to get a diagnosis!

    Take him now!

  6. I have chest pains when I don't practice good posture. My doc just told me to make sure I sit up straight and don't slouch and it works

  7. i had this when i was younger. it could be a few things (none of which are very serious) none the less i would get it checked (but not urgently). some people and quite often children have hearts the get out of rhythm every now and again. It can stay for years and then get better but usualy doesnt stop normal functioning. THe heart quickly corrects itself. lots of people have this problem. Or it could be the muscles in between his ribs. He may have stressed them while playing sport etc and now its hurts every now and again. They take a while to fix themselves.

I would say that it's not serious. but as i said if you are really concerned then take him to the doctor and they will do tests to make sure its not serious.

goodluck and dont worry too much.

ps: if he gets other more serious symptoms then u could worry.

  8. take him somewhere else and get a new doctor for not being concerned. yes even children can have heart problems, i pray it isnt so.
