Question:

Songs for Homeschool Graduation party?

by  |  earlier

My son graduates Saturday. It's a private, home party, and I'm still looking for ideas to make it special and memorable.

Someone suggested that choosing a theme song might be a good, and I do like that idea. I'd really like it to be something addressed personally TO him or at least music someone his age enjoys. I wish I had thought of this sooner, but I might can still pull it off!

So.... suggestions? Contemporary Christian music would be nice, but I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks!

  1. Well, I'm personally hoping for "Blackbird" by the Beatles, but I know not too many kids my age (17) are Beatles fanatics like I am.

  2. "Mr. Lonely" comes to mind.

Oh wait, that's going to be my graduation song!

  3. id figure out what cd's he owns and burn them and make your own cds. or ask his friends, and get cds, even though you wouldn't like, as he would like them. its a day about him!

  4. Graduation song

    Happy Graduation

To Son With Love From Your Mother

Everybody has got moments in their lives

When the sun shines down so warm and good

Son, this is one of those times

When life unfolds the way it should

You never know just how it's gonna go

So the best that you can do is do your best

Son, now it's happening for you

Because you did the job, you passed the test, oh yes

    CHORUS:

    It's time for a celebration

    It's your high school graduation

    Son, congratulations

You're my son, I'am so proud

Makes me wanna shout out loud

    Son, congratulations...

This song continues with more lyrics.

---------- you can add name of your son name in place of "Son"

  5. Hmm... I'm trying to think of good ones for a guy. This is what I've come up with.

~This Is Your Life- Switchfoot (they have other songs that are really good too)

~Where You Lead Me- Mercy Me (they're a Christian group)

~I'm Not Gonna Cry- Corey Smith (I've never heard this one till now, but it's awesome...and actually about a graduation!)

~My Wish- Rascal Flatts (I love this song... perfect as one from you to him)

~Drive- Incubus (I would love to have had this one as my grad. song.)

Me being an 18 year-old myself, if I had to pick one, it would be the Incubus song, but only you know your son! I hope I helped a little!

  6. I would try to find out subtly what his favourite song at the moment is and see if I can work with that... and also ask what is his all time favourite song. And who his favourite artist is... so that you can play it through the evening.. after all, it is going to be his party for his enjoyment.

    Best Wishes!!!

  7. Gosh, I don't know any modern songs.  "I Did it My Way" springs to mind, but that is kind of old and tacky.

  8. How about Set the World on Fire by Britt Nicole?  Its upbeat, and all about giving your dreams to God.

  9. I'd ask your son what he would like.

That said, I'd also ask you to play "Pomp and Circumstance" at least once in the background, while he opens gifts or makes his speech or at some highlight in the festivities.  It's the traditional graduation song, and he deserves to have the honor of being serenaded by it!

And tell him congratulations from fellow homeschoolers!
