  1. Neil Young's "Ohio," about the shooting of protesters at Kent State, is one. There are also many songs about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. '"Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" by Alan Jackson, "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue," by Toby Keith and "The Rising" by Bruce Springsteen are probably the best-known.

  2. GOOGLE for Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Peter Paul and Mary, Janice Joplin, Crosby Sills and Nash with Neil Young and about 500 OTHER protest singers from back then and you will have a list that is too long to put in a single reply on Answers.

  3. "Ohio" is a song about four young college kids whom were shot and killed by the Ohio National Guard during a peaceful anti-war (Vietnam War) protest on the campus of Kent State University on May 4th, 1970.  It was written by Neil Young and performed by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

"The Battle of New Orleans" was a song about , er, the battle, which was a huge victory for the young United States over mighty Great Britain in the War of 1812.  It was written by Jimmie Driftwood, and sung by Johnny Horton.

"Ride Captain, Ride" was a song about the USS Pueblo, a US Navy spy ship that was captured by the North Koreans in 1968, and about her Captain, Lloyd Bucher, who was held and tortured along with his crew for about a year.  The US Navy refused to acknowledge Bucher, or the crew, or even the ship!  The song was written by Mike Pinera and Skip Conte of the Blues Image.
