Sonko to capitalise on drop in class in Hotel & Conferencing At Wolverhampton Selling Stakes
Sonko was awful on her last few starts. She certainly has plenty of questions to answer, and needs a huge push to get back to the right track. Monday’s Hotel & Conferencing At Wolverhampton Selling Stakes has offered the 3-year-old a massive opportunity
to get her act together.
A huge drop in class should work as a morale booster for the filly. She likes five-furlong distance, and will have a very strong chance if getting back to somewhere near the form of her two wonderful runner-up positions at Chester early in the season.
The Tim Pitt-trained started her 2012 campaign with a huge bang. The spectators at Lingfield saw her cruising to a comprehensive win in the Holtye Handicap in January. Carrying forward the fine work, the young filly showed a couple of fantastic performances
at Chester.
After finishing second to Ballesteros in the Edwardshomes.co.uk E B F Handicap, she ran equally well to capture the runner-up spot in the Lambrini Original Handicap. After a wonderful start to the season, she unfortunately lost rhythm, and faced a few terrible
defeats lately.
On her latest trip at Chester, the daughter of Red Clubs ended up 13th in the New Fashioned Banking Handicap. It was a class 4 contest, and Sonko was completely unable to handle the situation.
Today’s opposition is lot weaker, thus one can easily expect her to show improvement. The 5f20y contest has attracted eight entries, and the organisers have reserved a prize of £1,704. The class 6 battle will be commenced at 14:30 GMT.
There will be each-way claims for Clubland, if he recaptures the form of his Southwell victory over five furlongs. Airborne Again will also be a big player today. With blinkers, the Harry Dunlop-trained is trying to regain momentum after facing a few unlucky
defeats at the higher grades.
Most of the participants are currently out-of-form. So, it is an ideal opportunity for Sonko, who has three AW wins to her credit. She just needs to deliver her level best in order to get back to the winning ways. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
