Sonnen’s coach disappointed over Sonnen’s defeat to Silva – UFC News
After being defeated by UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen is on the verge of losing it all. Even Sonnen’s coach is disappointed with him, so much so that his coach wants him to retire.
“Any time you're a part of training camp or you're friends with somebody and they lose, you just worry about them like, how are they gonna handle it mentally? Are they gonna come back from this?” Sonnen’s coach Neil Melanson commented.
“I don't know what Chael's plans are, but I got a feeling he's done fighting. I don't know. I've just got a feeling he's done. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think he was serious when he said, 'If you beat me, I will leave forever,' and there's a very good chance
of that.”
This was the second time Sonnen went head to head with Silva, boasting much about himself but ending up in a more disappointing manner. Last time, Sonnen won 4 out of five rounds. He tapped out to a submission by Silva just seconds before the fight was over.
Most analysts regarded Sonnen as the man who can dethrone Silva but to no avail.
This time Sonnen completely gave himself up to Silva. In the second round, the ‘American Gansta’ was knocked out by the Brazilian spider, a defeat that shocked the entire UFC universe. More or less, everyone in the arena was shocked over Sonnen’s defeat.
Sonnen’s coach revealed that the UFC number 1 contender had claimed to leave the show if he lost to Silva yet again. According to Melanson, since Sonnen has lost, he might keep up to his word and leave the division at least if not the show.
The show started with Sonnen busting up Silva in the first round. It was apparent that Sonnen was the more aggressive one while Silva was taking his time to understand his opponent’s strategy. In the second round, Sonnen became a victim of his own shot when
he swung his arm to hit Silva, missed it and landed on the floor. It was the perfect opportunity on which the champion capitalised. Seven right arms and a strong knee was enough to knockout Sonnen, the bell rang and the show was over, disappointing millions
of Sonnen fans around the globe.
