Sonny Anderson admits of contact with AS Saint-Etienne – Ligue 1 news
Former Olympique Lyonnais striker Sonny Anderson has admitted that Ligue 1 club AS Saint-Etienne did make an approach to him for a coaching position.
The former Brazil international is well known for his time in the French Ligue 1 where he played for the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127, Olympique Lyonnais and AS Monaco where he scored goals at will and at an impressive rate.
After retiring from all forms of football in 2006, the Brazilian was given a managerial position at Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax in May 2011. However, the 41-year-old’s first managerial stint turned out to be the shortest stint of his career as he was sacked
after the Swiss club lost two games under the former Barcelona man.
The wealthy owner of Neuchâtel Xamax, Bugat Chagaev has been doing all kinds of tinkering with the club in a bid to make Neuchâtel Xamax Swiss champions and Anderson was certainly on the receiving end of a very harsh treatment.
While talking to the French media, the Brazilian spoke about the problems at Neuchâtel Xamax and also spoke about his chances of returning to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 to coach a Ligue 1 side.
While talking about a return to coaching, the 41-year-old said, “I look forward to the next transfer window, I was contacted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858. I also had an indirect contact with Saint-Etienne.”
Joining http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anderson-c5565 is not really worried about a fan-backlash.
“I played in Lyon. Those were beautiful and great moments but I will have no problem in joining ASSE, Marseille or PSG. In Brazil, some players left for rival clubs,” said the Brazilian in his defence.
During his time at Lyon, Anderson scored 71 goals in 110 games which included some of the best goals Ligue 1 has ever seen. Before arriving at Stade de Gerland, the Brazilian played for the likes of Marseille, Monaco and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 where he is still fondly
remembered as one of the best strikers of his time.
