Sonny Bill Williams: All Blacks new super-star
Sonny Bill Williams is one of the most competitive rugby players of the current All Blacks team. He has made his place in the All Black team through his deep commitment, utmost dedication and untiring efforts. Sonny has made a name for himself quite rapidly
in international rugby. The media attention to his on-field and off-field life is incredible, especially at his young age.
Although Williams has represented his national team, All Blacks, in only four games he has impressed rugby critics with his elevated performance. He has the honour of playing for New Zealand in both the Rugby Union and Rugby League at the age of 25. Meanwhile,
he is one of the very few players of the World to engage in dual sports simultaneously. The versatile player is equally good in the boxing rings, as he has proved in his bouts so far.
Williams has fought five boxing matches in his short career and remained unbeaten in every single competition. He has represented the French club Toulon, New Zealand’s domestic team Canterbury, Super Rugby conference Crusaders and 2011 Rugby World Cup favourites,
All Blacks, in the past three years.
His amazing technique and aggressive playing style has earned him high repute among the other players. Well built and strong, the young man has become the sign of terror for his opponents when he is at his very best. He has a unique record of playing an
international rugby match while sharing the 212 kg weight in the midfield with his fellow player Ma’a Nonu.
The promising and motivated young man attracted the attention of All Blacks selectors with his tremendous display of skills, playing for Toulon in 2010. He made his international rugby debut for the All Blacks in 2010 against England at the famous Twickenham.
Sonny Bill Williams proved his selection through his excellent performance in the second international match of his career. He produced a Man of the Match performance playing against Scotland in 2010. He justified all the hype created by local media regarding
his international debut. The All Blacks supporters were very curious to watch him play for his national side.
Earlier, Sonny Bill Williams had earned worldwide fame for his output on the field. When Williams left Canterbury Bulldogs, the Chief Executive officer of the Bulldogs, Todd Greenberg, was grieved at his departure. Todd Greenberg paid him rich tribute and
said that Williams was the best player at the club.
Bill Williams saw himself at the climax of his club rugby career, when he was offered $6 million for three years by Toulon. He turned down the largest deal of Rugby Union history in order to play for his national side. He preferred the All Blacks even at
the low pay and has been committed to the team since then.
Sonny Bill Williams achieved another milestone in his rugby career when he became first Muslim to represent the All Blacks. Williams converted into Islam in 2008 but did not publicise the news.
Along with heaps of successes Williams has also fell into several controversies in his career. He was charged with drunken driving allegations in 2005 and was ultimately fined with $5000 by the Bulldogs. In 2007 he caught by police for urinating on a club
wall, in Sydney and again he was fined with $650.
Recently, Sonny Bill Williams is engaged in the Super Rugby 15 for the Crusaders and the derby is leading on the top of the point tables among the other New Zealander derbies. He is one of strong candidates to play for the All Blacks in the forthcoming Rugby
World Cup 2011. His current contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union will come to an end with the conclusion of the RWC.
