Sonny Bill Williams advocates for Meningococcal C vaccinations through promotional video
Sonny Bill Williams, a star New Zealand rugby union player, who was also a former rugby league player, is encouraging kiwi youngsters to get vaccinated against meningococcal C. The player posted his promotional video on Youtube and Facebook for the cause
on December 12.
The personalised message was recorded by Williams for the vaccination programme in Northland, which has reached its final week.
The All Black has been associated to similar causes since he was just 18. While expressing his views about his involvement to the meningitis charity in Australia, Williams said, "I've seen kids struggle after getting meningitis, they've lost arms and legs
and even gone deaf - so this is about awareness. I'm proud to say I'm supporting this campaign. You think it couldn't happen to you but it does. It's such a nasty disease, it spreads like wildfire."
This is an awareness campaign, which is aimed at getting the vaccination done against meningitis, which is a deadly disease that can even cost you your limbs. The purpose of this campaign is to get everyone who is falling between 12 months to 20 years of
age, vaccinated against the fatal disease as soon as possible. As the campaign is drawing close to its end, the purpose is to benefit maximum from the limited time offer.
In his promotional video, Williams shared, "The vaccination is free until December 16 so tell your cuzzies, your whanau to get in there and get that shot. Because, like I've said, it's a really nasty disease and it's pretty serious up in Northland at the
moment."
Through this campaign, 85% of Northland population can get vaccinated, whereas only 30,000 people responded to the call promptly. It appears that people are not realising the gravity of the situation, as the response to the call has been so far a mellow
one.
Therefore, Northland DHB Medical Officer of Health Clair Mills is urging people to take advantage of the campaign to the fullest, which is entirely free of cost. The basic purpose behind this campaign is to get as many people vaccinated as is possible. The
vaccination can be reached at one of the designated community clinics or by simply going to your General Physicians.
It was further revealed that the vaccine is otherwise expensive which is only free of cost until Friday. People are urged to act promptly to the call and benefit as much as they can because after this special offer is over. The importance of deadline has
been highlighted because once it has passed the vaccination will no longer be free of charge.
It will be interesting to see how well people respond to the vaccination programme in Northland after Williams’ call for the noble cause, which is spreading. The outbreak of meningococcal C has so far taken three lives in the region which is the reason why
the need of vaccination is being stressed upon through various media.
