Sonny Bill Williams extends his stay with New Zealand Rugby Union - Rugby News
All Blacks centre, Sonny Bill Williams, has finally put pen to the paper with New Zealand Rugby Union for another one year. NZRU confirmed on October 31, that Bill Williams has made a new contract with the union for one more year, which will keep him with
the All Blacks until the end of 2012. Earlier, SBW was approached by various overseas and local clubs to play for them which he turned down in the best interest of his country.
He was expected to make an announcement regarding his future right after the global show but delayed it due to the sickness of his grandmother. He also missed the victory celebrations, held in the country due to the same reason but indicated on October 27
via twitter that his grandmother was ready to leave from hospital and he will soon make a decision about his new contract.
Sonny Bill, who started off his Super Rugby career with the Crusaders in 2011, has shifted towards the Chiefs for the forthcoming season. During his stay with Crusaders, SBW represented the derby in 15 matches and scored 25 points for his team. His Super
Rugby debut was highly successful as he helped the side to the final of the championship where they were defeated by Australian franchise, Queensland Reds, in the grand final.
Neil Sorensen, the spokesman of NZRU, told the reporters about Williams' new deal and said that, “We're looking forward to seeing him create some more excitement in a Chiefs, as well as an All Blacks, jersey next year. He's a special player who creates some
real excitement and interest in the game with his style of rugby.”
The new coach of Chiefs, Dave Rennie, also welcomed the star player in his team and said that inclusion will boost the squad. He added that, “We're rapt Sonny's joining the Chiefs. He had a very good World Cup and his professionalism and work ethic will
have a great influence on what is a very young team.”
