Sonny Bill Williams plans to return to Rugby League platform
According to the news in speculation, the All Black Star, Sonny Bill Williams, who had recently bid farewell to Rugby League in hopes of testing his luck in the alternate code of rugby, will be seen making his comeback in the world of Rugby League.
There are a mixed set of views that are starkly contrasting about Williams’ return to the League. There are a specific set of people who believe that the way he exited League to test his luck in Union was not at all appropriate. He did not even wait for
his running contract in League to expire before he linked his ties at the alternate code of rugby.
This lack of professionalism on his part has angered not only his fellow league players but also his Rugby League fan-base, who do not approve of the way he tried to make his way out of the rugby code, which had offered so much to him.
On the other hand, there are people who are more than just happy to have their Rugby League ace back in their clan. For that they are even willing to let go of his inappropriate ways because Rugby League franchises are all geared up to grab onto every available
opportunity to boost their strength as a franchise.
The members of Sydney Roosters were the first ones to pounce on the premium opportunity. This was confirmed when Roosters’ Nick Politis along with Channel Nine boss David Gyngell and Williams’ manager Khoder Nasser was found meeting at a harbourside cafe.
The news was in speculation for quite some time already but with this recent development, the dust of confusion has settled down. Williams was in Sydney for his February 8 clash for the New Zealand heavyweight title against Richard Tutaki.
When he bid his farewell to his previous league franchise, Bulldogs, he agreed to the condition laid down straight by the club that the player will not attempt to make his comeback in the league until the end of 2012. This means that Williams’ recent meeting
was arranged to discuss the possibility of dual code rugby player’s come back in league games for next year. This can also be reaffirmed from the fact that the New Zealand Rugby Union will retain Williams with them for a year more.
The 26-year-old player also shared that when he was approached by media reporters, he confirmed that he was evaluating his chances of returning to Sydney Roosters.
It is believed that his comeback to league platform is going to benefit NRL franchise which will be most probably, Roosters, because the player will bring in the flavour of union experience. Previously, he stayed with Bulldogs for seven years.
However, it will be interesting to see how well he will play with Roosters after gaining experience at the alternate code of rugby, which has spread its arms wide to welcome him in a year’s time.
It is however not yet known for how long Williams will stick around in the League because he has already walked out on the National Rugby League platform once already.
It is quite possible that he may also walk out in a bid to test his luck, if he is given a lucrative opportunity in the opposite code. However, the true picture will only unveil once he joins in with the Roosters in 2013.
