Christchurch Crusaders and All Blacks’ versatile player Sonny Bill Williams, has been praised by his coach Todd Blackadder for his unmatchable rugby skills.
He declared the player as a role model for youngsters, who are interested in rugby to make it their career sport. The statement has come up after Reeboks’ coach Peter de Villiers slammed Sonny Bill and called him a ‘devastating example for youngsters’.
Yesterday, Reeboks’ coach, Peter de Villiers had an outburst on Sonny Bill and said that he was introducing bad norms to rugby. He further told the reporters that whatever Sonny Bill is doing was wrong and he should modify his style.
De Villiers argued that, "He is doing everything wrong what rugby principles (requires) of you in the game. I mean back-hand passes shouldn't be the norm. It has become the norm, now everybody wants to do those kinds of nonsense and they forget about the
basic principles of the game."
His criticism came up after the player guided the Crusaders in a nail biting victory over the Stormers in the recent leg of their South African tour. He scored a late try in their crucial match against the Stormers, played in Cape Town.
Meanwhile, Peter de Villiers acknowledged that Sonny Bill has got enormous talent which is needed to be polished. He asserted that what Sonny was doing is only acceptable at Super Rugby level.
Crusaders’ head coach contradicted the fake propaganda being made against his player and said that rugby needed heroes like Sonny Bill who are bringing innovation in the play. The coach said, “This game needs heroes. All the kids are running around calling
offloads Sonny Bill Williams. It's like when Jonah (Lomu) was playing. We should embrace those people with natural, special gifts. It's great for the profile of the game. I think Sonny's a fantastic player and a great role model.”
Blackadder appreciated the playing style of Sonny Bill and said the way he was playing is really promising and he will help the All Blacks in the forthcoming Rugby World Cup.
