Sonny Bill Williams talks about his new contract with NZRU - Rugby News
The star player of the All Blacks, Sonny Bill Williams, has put a huge full stop to the various assumptions regarding his off shore deals by revealing the news that he is staying with New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) for one more year. SWB confirmed on July
26 that he is not leaving his country for any foreign club and will remain with the union until the end of 2012. The player was suspected of ending his ongoing contract with NZRU after the Rugby World Cup 2011.
Bill Williams told the media that All Blacks’ jersey is more fascinating for him than any other side of the world and it was the motive behind his fresh deal. He further said that during his stay with the All Blacks, he has got immense support from the fans,
which really encouraged him to prolong his career with the national side.
The 25-years-old inside centre had a wonderful career in rugby as he started off his journey with Rugby League in 2002 and then turned around to Rugby Union in 2008. He signed with the New Zealand Rugby Union in 2010 and started playing for Canterbury, a
provincial team of New Zealand. He impressed the national selectors with his unique style and was included in All Blacks squad in 2010 where he made his International debut against England at Twickenham.
Talking about his fresh deal, Sonny Bill Williams said that, “I've known for a long time what the All Black brand is and what it's about. When you're living in France and young kids are walking around who can't even speak English and wearing All Black jerseys,
you know that the All Black brand is pretty big.”
He further said that “It's been really humbling just little kids coming up and asking for signatures and grandmas and things like that. It's been pretty cool. Obviously playing for the All Black jersey, that's something I pride myself on doing. At the moment
it's just one more year but things could change.”
Sonny Bill Williams however has not cleared whether he will continue with the Crusaders in the Super Rugby championship or will quit for the Blues or Chiefs.
