Sonny Bill Williams tired of repeated earthquakes in Christchurch - Rugby News
Crusaders and All Blacks player Sonny Bill Williams is fed up with the frequent earthquakes in Christchurch tremor devastated city.
The Canterbury conference could lose their rising star because of the increasing rate of natural disaster in Christchurch. The third largest city of New Zealand has been hit thrice in the last six months, causing huge damage to the city.
Tremors have been shaking the southern city of New Zealand on regular intervals since last year. The city was worst hit during February, this year and the incident claimed 181 lives along with incurring huge financial losses. The Crusaders, the local derby from Christchurch, lost all their home matches of the current Super Rugby championship because AMI Stadium was destroyed by the tremor.
Furthermore, the venue was declared unfit to host any match of the forthcoming Rugby World Cup 2011. International Rugby Board (IRB) visited the venue on a regular basis and finally turned down all possibilities to allow the scheduled matches in AMI Stadium. The second largest venue in New Zealand was deprived of all seven RWC including two quarter-finals.
Talking to the media on June 24, Sonny Bill Williams said that there is a possibility he will leave the city as life has become insecure due to the frequent quakes. Williams further said that the final decision will be made after the conclusion of the Super Rugby championship, which is in its final stages at the moment.
Bill Williams stated that, "I have loved my time down here but I won't lie, it has been pretty difficult with the earthquakes and moving around, But I am fortunate I am still here. I don't have much family down here and there are a lot of people worse off than me."
Discussing his future with New Zealand Rugby Union, Williams said that, "I want to try and make my mind up, hopefully if I make the All Blacks squad, probably after the Super 15 season, when I can really sit down and have a good time to assess everything and weigh up all my options."
His current contract with NZRU will come to end after the conclusion RWC 2011.
