Sony DCR-IP7E Handycam getting videos onto computer?

I have a Sony DCR-IP7E Handycam, however i cannot get the videos off of the cassette onto the computer. How do i do it?

i have a usb cable that plugs into the camera and computer, but i don't have any software, and if i need any can you give me a link please (preflably free software)?

  1. The IP7 used MPEG2 recording onto microMV tapes.  Although most programmes now facilitate MPEG2 transfer, this is usually from hard disc or DVD camcorders, or hdv camcorders through firewire.  The only 'free' software I can think of was Sony's own which came with the cam.  If you don't have the discs (which probably wont be vista compatible in anycase) then you may need to consider shelling out for sony vegas.  The first port of call is to go to the support section of the sony website, see what software downloads they have, if none then ask them about vegas.


  2. You need a firewire or iLink cable that plugs into the firewire port of your PC!! There is a whole section in your manual that explains this procedure step by step!!   3. for digital video on tape (DCR-IP7E  is on micromv), usually the recom is to firewire-connect vcam to pc. ("E" is for Europe w/c is usually on PAL system)
