Hi Everyone. I have a friend who owns a camera shop and give me great deal on cameras.

Days ago he gave me good price on some cameras and offered me same price on the models mentioned. I have no knowledge on cameras but i have interest on photography and planning to learn and produce professional pictures, so i would really appreciate suggestions.

  1. If you can choose between the G9 and Sony A200 for the same price - there is no question about it.  Get the A200.  Even if that price does not include a lens, it's a great price.  Of course, you will have to have a lens, so ask about the SONY 18-70 lens that usually comes in the "kit."

As nice as the G9 is, there simply is no comparison between it and almost any digital SLR (DSLR).  The G9 sensor is only 43 square millimeters and the Sony's is more than 8 times bigger than that.  This will give you so much better an image that you wouldn't believe it.

Besides that, if you ever want to adjust focus, shutter speed or lens aperture (You will.), the DSLR is almost infinitely easier to use.

He's probably giving you such a great price on the A200, because Sony just brought out 2 cameras to replace it on the entry-level end of their line.  It is still a fine camera and that's the one you should buy.

  2. Of course the DSLR one you should buy.If you are thinking about learning serious Photography,G9 is not your camera even though it is the best advanced point&shot camera for its price range. One thing about you is that if you are going to get bored and tired of carrying lenses with big bags, just get the G9.Because i know a lot of people and first they exactly said what you said and couple of months later, they started complaining that they couldn't use their cameras , they need better lenses, they are tired of paying for the extra and of course ended up selling them.Just think again and if you are brave enough, go for the Sony...At least you can create your own style with it eventhough you will suffer little.Good luck...

  3. I suppose it would also depend on your photography experience and if you would prefer to reduce photography hasstle. I would recommend the Cano for ease of use, but full photography control go for the Sony.

  4. The Sony A200.

A DSLR with interchangeable lenses and a sensor several times larger than the G9 is definitely the way to go.

Ask your friend if he'll help you learn to use the A200 since it will require a lot of effort. Plan on spending a lot of time to really READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual so you can learn every setting and feature and how, when and why to use them.

The G9 is a sophisticated camera but just not as versatile as the A200.

Ask your friend if he can get you a deal on the Sony A300 since its a newer model and has Live View that works with the auto focus.
