Question:

Sony DVD Home Theater System Sound Cuts Out?

Hi, I have a Sony DAV-DX150 home theater system (have had it for about 2 years) and for the last few months, when I leave the system on for several hours (typically overnight) the sound cuts out. The only way to get it back is to change the found function (i.e. change from DVD to radio and back) or to turn the power off and back on. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to go about fixing it?

Thanks,

Jeff

  1. Being that, that system is a very compact system they seem to carry a small amount of ventilation which puts stress on the unit its self, this is by pushing the unit (which in your case leaving it on for a long period of time).    They are not design for that type of magnitude simply because they have very compact heat sink mounted in the unit itself to allow it to release heat, so the unit is trying to keep up with the heat sinks and they can't so your unit is quickly using the wear of it's performance.   Now the only suggestion that I can give [if you want to save the unit] is to put a fan on it Radio Shack (I believe) carry small fans that can be used on top of a receiver to help the ventilation.  or you can go to a Home Improvement store a find a small one and place it towards the unit to where it can receive the air flow that it requires.  Make sure you have absolutely nothing on top or around the unit that would prevent air flow.  Might want to cut down on the all-niter's; not good for compact receiver[s].

  2. Could it be a heating issue? If you are not using you should shut it off. My sony receiver does not have a fan but it is in an area that it can dissipate heat. Also try cleaning it out, a collection of dust can create heat issues as well.
