    The MacBook Air does not have a built-in DVD drive - but does have an optional external DVD drive.

    Because you are ripping the DVD, it does not matter where it came from. Personally, I would not waste time or money on a DVD based camcorder. Short record time, DVDs can scratch and be made useless, most video compression of all the consumer video storage media means reduced video quality...

    Hard drive or flash memory will likely be your best bet since they use USB for transfer. For standard definition MPEG2 files, you need to download and install StreamClip to convert the files to something iMovieHD can use:

    If you get a high definition camcorder that uses AVCHD compression, you must use the most current iMovieHD08.

    In either case, video takes a lot of room on the hard drive. The MacBook Air does not have a large internal hard drive so you will need an external hard drive.
