Sony Dvd Recorder RDR-HXD870?

I recently upgraded my Dvd Recorder, and I a problem trying to watch Sky + whilst I am recording a programme on the dvd recorder, as it has analogue/didgital tuners built in, I have been all through the settings, I have swapped the scrat cables around, Hdmi cable is plugged in for the 1080p upscale, but I am at a loss to how I can watch another input whilst the dvd recorder is recording from freeview, it takes over the whole Tv, and doesn't allow me to watch anotehr input as in Sky + etc, whereas my last recorder did, Please can someone help me out on this matter, apart from this issue it is a really Great dvd recorder!

What comes up when you try to and does your dvd player have duel tuners or else it wont let you change the channel. Also Sony, even though great, are little buggers when it comes to their own equipment. We had a sony tv and a bog standard DVD recorder and it wouldnt work with the sony tv, so we had to go and buy  a sony dvd. It might be that they are not compatible? I would ring sony, thats what we did.

Not completely sure on your SONY, but on mine (also SONY), all I do is to press the TV/DVD button on my remote control, then the DVD recorder "steps out of the loop" and allows me to watch what ever the SKY box is showing.  

If I need to check/view the DVD recorder's activities, I just press TV/DVD once more and the DVD recorder "steps back into the loop".

In Short TV/DVD button just toggles between the SKY box (or any thing else that's connected) and the DVD recorder itself.
