Sony Dwi Kuncoro advances into Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold
Indonesia’s experienced player Sony Dwi Kuncoro showed his elevated craft and eased into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after defeating his lower ranked compatriot Wibowo Setyaldi Putra in second round match at the Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton 2012 in Indonesia, on Wednesday, September 26.
The impressive Kuncoro, who is World Number 32 and fifth seed in the tournament, played dominating badminton and remained successful in crushing his team-mate in a lopsided battle by taking just 25 minutes.
Kuncoro was in remarkable form as he played with tremendous precision without showing any mercy to his country-mate and won the battle in straight sets with a one-sided score on the board.
On the other hand, Wibowo gave a good fight in first set by playing with speed and aggression but he failed to control the bird on crucial occasions and eventually lost the battle without making his presence felt.
In the first game, both players entertained their home fans by playing positive game and reached at 4-4.
Kuncoro, at this stage, started to dictate the affairs by increasing his speed in all areas and managed to establish a comfortable gap until the end of opening half by reaching at 11-6.
After the mid-game interval, the in-form Kuncoro did not let his opponent to catch up the deficit by playing positive badminton.
The higher ranked Indonesian player sailed smoothly in the concluding phase of opening set and managed to win it with a good margin of 21-16.
In the following set, Wibowo could not compete with the pace and perfection of his senior compatriot who was better in every aspect of the game.
Until the end of opening half in second set, it was Kuncoro who took a huge lead on score board by reaching at 11-5.
After the interval, Kuncoro was everywhere on court as he anticipated the shots and manipulated Wibowo quite easily.
Kuncoro continued his smooth sailing in the ending phase and bagged the game with a huge 21-13 score on the board.
The lofty Kuncoro won this second round match in an easy manner with a controlled margin of 21-16 and 21-13.
