Sony Dwi Kuncoro easily topples Alamsyah Yunus in quarter-final fight at Vietnam Open Grand Prix
Indonesia’s experienced shuttler Sony Dwi Kuncoro stretched his winning streak as he secured his berth in Men’s Singles semi-final after showing exit to his compatriot Alamsyah Yunus in quarter-final encounter at the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 in Vietnam, on Friday, August 24.
The World Number 28 Kuncoro, who is placed at number five in Men’s Singles main draw, played dominating badminton against his higher ranked team-mate and registered his supremacy by ending up the contest in an elevated fashion.
The lower ranked Kuncoro played with impressive touch in his shots from all areas of the court and managed to thrash Yunus in straight sets with a one-sided margin by taking the court time for just 40 minutes.
The fourth seeded Yunus, on the other hand, could not maintain his tremendous form while playing against his experience compatriot and easily bowed down against him in two sets without proving his impressive skills on the court.
The start of opening game was shocking for Yunus as his lower ranked opponent played with impressive speed and control.
The fifth seeded Kuncoro played attacking and positive badminton in opening half and took a stunning lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the in-form Kuncoro continued showing his remarkable skills without showing any mercy to his country-mate at any stage.
The aggressive Kuncoro was in commanding position as he spared no chance of fighting back for Yunus and took the set with a wonderful 21-11 score on the board.
In the second set, Yunus tried to live up to expectations by increasing his speed but he failed to shake the impressive defensive skills of Kuncoro and remained trailing behind on score board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Kuncoro continued executing powerful strokes while taking the bird early from all areas. He did not commit any mistake in the concluding half and easily finished off the set with a 21-14 difference on the board.
The passionate Kuncoro sent Yunus packing at the quarter-final stage by winning the contest in straight games with a killing margin of 21-11 and 21-14.
