Sony Dwi Kuncoro tames Chen Yuekun to claim Men’s Singles title at Thailand Open GP Gold 2012
Indonesia’s experienced shuttler Sony Dwi Kuncoro, who has been struggling hard to get rid of a series of injuries for the last two years, powered his way back into the international arena as he crushed China’s Chen Yuekun to claim Men’s Singles title at
Thailand Open GP Gold 2012 on Sunday, June 10, in Thailand.
The World Number 65 Kuncoro, who participated in Thailand Open as an un-seeded shuttler, proved his impressive craft and grabbed the title to show that he is ready to take bigger challenges in major tournaments ahead.
The in-form Kuncoro, in his way to final, showed a stunning performance and defeated many to shuttlers including the ruling Olympic and World Champion Lin Dan of China in the semi-final battle.
The Indonesian remained on track in the title match as well and easily registered a comprehensive victory over his young Chinese opponent Yuekun by taking 42 minutes in the court.

The Indonesian grew stronger as the match progressed and he managed to take a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the break.
After the interval, the Chinese shuttler again showed his aggression and managed to make the score levelled by reaching at 11-11.
Both men continued pushing each other in all areas of the court but it was Kuncoro who remained dominant in the game and wrapped up opening game with a margin of 21-17.
