Sony Dwi Kuncoro trounces Du Pengyu in Men’s Singles first round at 2012 Singapore Open
Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro, who is in staggering form at the moment, showed his class in Men’s Singles first round where he defeated the higher ranked Du Pengyu of China at the 2012 Singapore Open Super Series in Singapore, on Wednesday, June 20.
The lower ranked Kuncoro, who is currently World Number 45 in the Men’s Singles category, started his campaign in Singapore Open from the qualifying round and continued his killing run while playing in the main round against the World Number 10 Pengyu.
The un-seeded Kuncoro played to his maximum potential and thrashed the higher ranked Chinese by playing to his maximum potential and wrapped up victory in an inspiring way by ending up the match in straight games with a comfortable margin.
Pengyu, who defeated Kuncoro at the quarter-final stage in last week’s Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012, failed to repeat history as he received a different treatment from the Indonesian and lost to him in straight games without showing a strong resistance.
Kuncoro entered into the court in a confident way as he showed a strong character by playing dominating badminton and commanded the rallies in an elevated manner.
Until the one-minute break in the first game, the Indonesian was leading smoothly on the score board with a wonderful margin of 11-6.
After the break, the fifth seeded Pengyu tried to increase his speed in order to stop the progressive run of his lower ranked opponent but failed to play his normal game as Kuncoro was on a different level this time.
Kuncoro easily took advantage in this Men’s Singles battle by grabbing the opening set with a one-sided score of 21-9.
In the second game, Pengyu played much better badminton as he did not lose his focus this time and remained close to Kuncoro until the interval.
After the break, the Chinese progressed closely on the board until 13-13 when Kuncoro took over the charge and started to dictate the pace.
The Indonesian was in commanding position at the ending points and took the game easily with a 21-17 margin on the score board.
The in-form Kuncoro tamed Pengyu in straight games with an impressive difference of 21-9 and 21-17.
