Sony Dwi Kuncoro waylays Takuma Ueda in opening round of 2012 Yonex Denmark Open
Indonesia’s spirited shuttler Sony Dwi Kuncoro registered his presence in Yonex Denmark Open as he intercepted Takuma Ueda in the opening round on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.
This Men’s Singles encounter was staged at local badminton arena of Odense, Denmark and it kept both contenders head-to-head for 72 minutes.
The victorious shuttler showed commendable fighting spirit and locked the honour by prevailing in the last two games.
On the other hand, the talented Japanese campaigner took a great start but he failed to continue his successful run and surrendered after reading final figures of 21-15, 19-21 and 13-21.
In the opening game, Takuma Ueda played with amazing precision and stunned his higher ranked rival with a splendid show of skills.
He made his intentions clear by dominating in five consecutive rallies straight away in the beginning.
He did not lose this rhythm and made best out of this flow to finish the first half of the set with a respectable margin of 11.
After the mid-game break, Takuma injected more intensity in his attack and confined the opposing shuttler in the rear court.
Though, Sony strived hard to catch his challenger but he could not hit the mark until the concluding score of 21-15.
However, he switched on the best after getting one down and managed to stay alive in the contest.
This time the Indonesian campaigner played with positive approach and did not allow his competitor to make a notable difference.
Sony Dwi Kuncoro started making progress after 7-11 and put his rival’s expedition to halt with 15-15 total.
He did not give Takuma even a single counter-attack opportunity and won this crucial set with a favourable figure of 21-19.
The decider was expected to be a tough trial for both contenders as they were standing just one step away from a woeful exit.
Unexpectedly, third set turned into a one-sided affair as Sony completely dominated the overall pace of the rallies and cornered his opponent in all areas of the game.
He placed an overwhelming margin of 21-13 and qualified for the pre quarter-finals where he will be meeting Sourabh Varma of India.
