Sony Ericsson and Billabong release action sports version of Sony Ericsson Xperia Active
Sony Ericsson has partnered with Australian action sports brand Billabong to release a new version of Xperia Active smartphone by the name of Sony Ericsson Xperia Active Billabong Edition.
The new product does not differ significantly from its counterpart, save for some tweaks that has been done keeping the lifestyle and preferences of action sports enthusiasts in mind.
The Billabong edition of Xperia Active will come loaded with an exclusive screensavers, videos, a Billabong Live app that will put the live streaming action right into the palms of the user, along with an app that will keep the user updated with the latest news and photos of the Billabong-sponsored action sports events. In addition to all this, buyers of Sony Ericsson Xperia Active Billabong Edition will also receive a copy of the Billabong Surf Trip game.
The dust-proof and water-resistant design of the regular Xperia Active is still there, along with a 3-inch, 320x480-pixel touch screen that works even if user’s fingers are wet. The smartphone will also feature the original Android 2.3 gingerbread operation system with a 1 GHz engine and a 5 mega-pixel camera that has an ability to capture video in high definition.
Another fitness goody included in the smartphone is the built-in ANT+ wireless technology that can monitor heart rate and pulse.
The original version of Xperia Active was already suited for people with an active lifestyle who required a smartphone with durable features that could be used to update their Facebook status with wet fingers or text their significant other while standing in a dusty area. The new tweaks only served to make it even more appealing for the extreme sports athletes and fans.
The Vice-President Head of Global Marketing Creation for Sony Ericsson Stephan Croix lauded the new partnership with Billabong, stating, “Billabong brings a new, enthusiastic and engaging audience who are early technology adopters and influencers in the areas of sports and technology.”
Croix further went on to add that, “This partnership is a perfect fit with our brand and the Xperia range of smartphones.”
Sony Ericsson Xperia Active Billabong Edition has already hit the shelves in selected markets around the globe.
