Question:

Sony HC38 - problems transferring DV to DVD?

My old Sharp VL-NZ105 camcorder died last week and I'm left with a bunch of DV tapes of family movies that I still need to transfer to DVDs so I bought a Sony HC38 over the weekend. I put the DV tapes in the new Sony and plugged it into my Philips DVD recorder. But when I hit the record button, the DVD burner displays a message stating that the DV tape is "copy protected" and therefore refuses to record.

But they were originally just blank TDK DV tapes I bought at Costco so I have no idea why the Sony is reading them as "copy protected"... maybe there is a conflict between the two different brands of camcorders?

I'm pretty sure the Sharp doesn't have some copy protection feature when I was recording... very strange. I researched the Sony manual and it just says that it won't record copy protected software.

  1. Did you take the Tab off the spine of the cassette or set the cassette so you wouldn't rerecord over you tapes??
