Question:

Sony HDR-HC5E problem?

My Sony Camcorder has recently been purchased, and has proved to be a relatively succesful investment, save for one little uncertainty. When I playback my recordings, it tends to "jump" in order several times briefly. Originally I thought it was either down to pressing the start/stop or photo buttons inadvertently. Then I considered what the Quick record may be inducing on the camera's performance.

But on this day, I made a startling revelation that it can all be cleared by simply rewinding the footage, replaying it, and then it's gone.

This is a blasted nuisance and makes for unwatchable and uncomfortable viewing unlike normal T.V. broadcasts.

Seems to me that it's founded to be the camera's playback, or the JVC 60min DV tapes are inadequate, even though they are acclaimed as "High Performance" recordings.

So if you have been in a similar predicament, give me a mention below. The only way you can reply is that you have an HDR-HC5E.

Many Thanks ~ Peter B.

  1. Have you tried using a different brand of tape? Different manufacturers' tapes have different levels and types of lubricants, and it could be that the JVC tape isn't liked by the Sony - not uncommon. The lubricant then comes off onto playback heads and causes momentary dropout, the symptoms of which are similar to those you describe. Perhaps use a Cleaning Tape first to give the heads and transport a de-clog. The camcorder site SimplyDV has good forums for this kind of stuff and it's a UK site.
