Sony Handycam Problem, please help!?

When I turn-on my handycam (TRV-285E), the display show a message :

"The tape is locked-check the tab"

Then, I can't record anything. How can I solve that??

Take the tape out of the camcorder. On the side of the tape opposite the tape shutter - I guess this is the "back" of the cartridge, there is a little tab... It is mostlikely open. Slide the tab to the closed position. Put the tape back in... you should be able to record...

ALERT: The tab was locked for a reason - don't tape OVER something you want to keep. Check to see what is on that tape before you do anything else... especially before you record over whatever that is...

I'm not quite sure, but if this is an 8mm cassette, then look at your cassette , there should be a little tab that you need to slide to allow recording. Good luck..
