Sony Handycam Windows Media Player Problems?

Question

I have a sony DCR-SR82 hard disk drive video camera. When I want to share the videos with people using programs like yousendit or want to view in Windows media player, I get error messages. Codecs, weird extension names, and conversion programs have me confused. Can anyone solve this problem? I find it hard to believe that the only way that I can view these videos or others can view is via the Sony software.

I have the exact same problem with the sr-62....I haven't found a way around it yet but I've only had my camera a couple of days.
