I want to put my videos on my computer from my Sony Handy cam DCR-HC40. I no longer have the software that it came with. Is there a website where I could purchase the software?

  1. If there is, it would be available from Sony.

The Sony DCR HC40 is a miniDV tape based camcorder.

All miniDV based camcorders require firewire (IEEE1394a, i.LINK and DV are all the same thing). Your computer needs a firewire port - add one if it does not already have one - hopefully, if you have to add one, you have an available xpansion slot. You will also need to get a firewire cable. This will conect the 4-pin DV port on the HC40 to the firewire port (4-pin or 6-pin depending on what the computer's frewire port is) to the computer's firewire port.

With the camcorder in VCR or Play mode,

If you are a Windows user, MovieMaker will "capture" the video.

If you are a Macintosh user, iMovieHD will "import" the video.

Bottom line: You don't need the Sony disc.

  2. Look up sony vegas studio 9....its only $55.00
