Sony Handycam vids imported to windows movie maker - codec problem?

Question

We have a project in school... we need to use the windows movie maker to produce our own mini film, so we used my sony handycam, but when i imported the vids to the movie maker, it says that there is an error on downloading the codec... how am i going to download the codec?
