Question:

Sony Home Amplifyer Protection Mode?

Hi, my Sony amplifier currently goes into protection mode after about 20 seconds of me turning it on. It worked perfectly till then and until recently i could just restart it and it would go perfectly forever. Now it has just stopped working altogether.

I turn it on like always, the status light flashes and goes off to say its ready for use, but no sound comes out. I have tryed using different channels for the speakers and for the input but still nothing.

In the past the odd time this did happen i could reset it a few times and it would work again perfectly.

Im guessing there is some fault with the protection system in my amplifyer.

Also note: i have double checked the speakers are compatible, they are 8ohms and 20-150watts, i have a 50 watt amp.

I have also tested the amp with a different set of lower powered speakers, nothing has changed.

  1. Check your speaker wiring.  The most common reason for the receiver to go into protection mode is that the wires are either touching each other or not securely connected to the proper receptacles.

  2. Try the wires maybe there set in the amp or in the speakers incorrectly. Try taking out all the wires and putting them back in carefully.

  3. Both good answers but here's how you narrow down the problem.

Disconnect all speakers. Turn on receiver. If the problem still occurs, take your receiver in for service.

If the receiver stays on, add speakers one by one. Test inbetween each speaker you add. If the first speaker doesn't play, take the receiver in for service.

If some speakers play but one doesn't, carefully check your wiring to that speaker and replace the speaker if the wiring is good.
