Question:

Sony Home Entertainment System NOT Responding to Universal Remote?

I have an older model Sony home entertainment system. I'm not sure of the age exactly, I bought it used about 3 years ago and I suspect it's about 7 or 8 years old. The original remote control stopped working for it and I have tried to use a universal remote on it, but I can not control the DVD on the unit. I can use the remote to power on and power off the unit, and it will adjust the volume, but it can not control the DVD portion of the unit. I tried using both the Aux & DVD settings on the universal remote and I tried all the available listed Sony codes. Short of buying a stand alone DVD, any other ideas?

  1. Did you try putting your remote in "code search" mode? Sometimes a match will be available that isn't listed in the brand-specific numbers.

In your case, buying a remote control that programs from a PC is like putting out a match with a fire hose. You could simply replace the DVD player for far less money. And, there's no guarantee that you will find the codes without your original remote to learn from anyway.

Hopefully Scott's link will render up a working OEM replacement. That's the ultimate solution.

  2. Well you have 3 options.  One is to buy a stand alone dvd the other is to try to buy a computer programmable remote such as one from universal remote or the harmony remote.  There is also a chance that you can find the remote for the system on http://www.replacementremotes.com/store/... you just need the model # from the unit.
