Sony Open: Noh Seung-yul ready to make a head start on the PGA Tour - Golf News
Korean young rising star, Noh Seung-yul, is set to make a quick start to his first PGA Tour season by taking part in the Sony Open at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu next week.
Noh, 20, earned his full-time PGA Tour card last year, after playing the PGA Tour Qualifying School. He finished at a third-place tie with an impressive and a controlled game in a six-round competition.
The PGA Tour Q-School is regarded as one of the toughest tests in the game of golf. However, Noh looked quite relaxed and in complete control to astonish his opponents on the field.
It was his childhood dream to qualify for the PGA tour and play events throughout the year.
While going for the Sony Open, he said that he cannot wait for the tournament to start, which will be his first ever PGA Tour event.
The 2010 Asian Tour’s No. 1 also said that he always wanted to play against the best golf players around the world and the PGA Tour will provide him that opportunity.
He had a spectacular record on the Asian Tour and was named as the Rookie of the year in 2008.
Moreover, he was the youngest player to ever become the number one in Asian Tour’s Order of Merit after he won the Maybank Malaysian Open.
After playing several events in Asia, he is confident that the experiences he gained during his Asian Tour period will help him make a good start on the PGA Tour too.
"I have experiences with much type of grasses out there, so the Asian Tour was a good base. From now on, I feel I can fashion a new chapter in my career," Noh said.
"A win will be great, I think I have to play really steady. I'll try to aim for a win and also the Rookie of the Year award. I would also like to qualify for the FedEx Cup play-offs which will be my objective this year," he added.
He will be accompanied by his compatriots, KJ Choi, YE Yang, Charlie Wi and Bae Sang-moon in the Sony Open, which will make him feel more comfortable while making his debut on the Tour.
