Sony Open: Ryan Palmer agrees to put on a microphone
Finally, Golf Channel has someone to put the microphone on. Ryan Palmer has agreed to the request put forward by the channel and will be the first one on the Professional Golfers Association circuit to be aired live.
Golf Channel started a program by the name ‘Golf Live’ and planned to launch it on the PGA season opener Tournament of Champions. Unfortunately, not a single player agreed to volunteer in the initial phase. On the informal request
of program producer, Jonathan Byrd agreed to volunteer and allowed the program crew to put microphone on his shirt. However, owing to the technical difficulties, the first day could not be broadcasted live. The technical staff fixed the problem, but this time,
the winner did not allow them to evade his privacy.
However, with Sony Open underway, stars have started to fall in coordination for the execution of the program. The defending Champion, Ryan Palmer has agreed to become a part of a live tournament, which will start a new era in
the history of golf.
The American spoke to the press during a practice session at Waialae Country Club. He said, “I think its good... I think it is good they can hear the talk between our shots and the green. Obviously, the only one listening is the
guy in the truck, but who's to say. But I've talked to them all. I'm confident they have to protect us and themselves.”
The winner from the 2010 tournament discussed his reservations with the press. He said that like all other players, he too wanted others to respect his privacy. However, at the same time, he wanted to contribute in a different
way to the sports, which gave him respect and recognition. The 34-year-old seemed hesitant and at the same time excited about the possible results.
He jokingly added, “I have never worn a microphone in my entire life, except the time I conducted a clinic.”
It might be the first time experience for the PGA Tour players, but Ladies Professional Golf Association has already gone through it. The divas on the other wing enjoyed the experience and showed less resistance than the hunks.
