Sony Press Conference E3 2011 – Breakdown – Part 5 – Kobe Bryant plays NBA 2k12; Medieval demo

Sony were having a solid press conference, starting off with two of their best exclusive franchises, each with their own stunning demo, before going on to reveal a whole host of bundles and products that would make 3D gaming accessible to a larger segment
of the market.
Yet, with so much revealed so early on, it left many wondering what else they had to offer and at the same time the crowd was getting anxious to find out more about the Next Generation Portable.
After promising that 200 3D titles would be available on the PlayStation 3 by the end of the year, Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, introduced another developer to come on stage and show just how the PlayStation Move
was going to become an integral part of future PS3 titles.
When Chris Snyder of 2K Games made his way on to the stage, it could only mean one thing, a sports title and as it turned out, there was a live demo of NBA 2K12 with the Move.
For those who are not familiar with the 2K series, one has to ask the question, which rock have you been living under?
Snyder was a little more subtle with his introduction though as he let everyone know that despite the series winning 21 sports gaming awards. The latest iteration in the franchise would ‘improve every feature’ from previous installments, as well as add a
whole host of new features.
Snyder revealed that the game had been developed so players could use the PS Move and demonstrated how players simply had to aim at the on-screen defender closet to the ball and pull the trigger to make the player block the shot. An interesting, if slightly
clumsy, looking feature.
The developer went on to boast that anyone could play NBA 2K12 and to prove this point, he invited Kobe Bryant, the star of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team, on stage for a live demo with the Move.
The first thing Bryant noticed was that the person he was playing against had opted to play as the Miami Heat. Some hilarious banter ensued and set the tone for the remainder of the demo. Bryant, funnily enough, would go on to state how the game was unrealistic
when the Heat scored and reversed his statement when he finally managed to score a basket.
Startled by how realistic it actually looked, Bryant went on to state the game ‘runs the triangle offense better than in real life’.
Snyder revealed that players could try the game out for themselves when it hits stores on the 4th of October with a host of new features.
There was an announcement of a new PlayStation 3 exclusive title as well and details can be found in the next part of the article
