Sony Speakers?

I have a Sony DAV 500 home ent system. The dvd player is now causing trouble so i wish to replace it. My question is whether i can use the existing speaker wire (which goes under carpet) with any other system. Obviously each system has different connectors but can i just snip the speaker wire and reconnect to the new system??

  1. Yes you can but make sure that the wire that you have running under the carpet is not broken or pinched.

If it is then it is best to replace the whole wire and not splice it because that is still a possible problem in the wire

  2. Actually, yes. Unless you live in a theatre, the amount of power to your speakers is minimal. What you should check is the old system speaker preferred ohms.?? Some speakers are 4 ohm, some are 8, etc. Unless you are blasting the house, should be no problem. The only use for heavy speaker wire is for an LFE or 'woofer' speaker to handle the low frequency of a 5.1 surround sound system..
