This computer is 7years old but it's sentimental...
For the last month or so, my laptop has booted occasionally or will freeze and I will need to reset.  It then would take 15 to 20 tries to get it to start again.  The other day it froze when I tried to connect to a public wireless connection. I powered it off and ever since has not been able to boot. The power light is on, the fan will spin occassionally, I'm getting power to the cd rom, but the HDD light is very dim.  I have tried many things such as moving the one stick of ram to the other slot, taking the whole thing apart and putting it back together piece by piece to try to isolate the problem..  I should also tell you that the ac adapter on the board failed about the same time that this problem surfaced.  I replaced it by sodering some speaker wire and a jack to the area where the jack was. This solved my power problem but then this happened.
So the things that I am going to try now is replace the HD (Could it be that it died?) NOte...when it did start it always took me to scan disk saying there were errors...but then scan disk would freeze so I always exited out of it.
Or the motherboard?
Maybe I should buy a new RAM Module?
Or is it something else entirely?
Any help would definitely be appreciated!
Thanks!
