Sony Vegas 8 synchronization?

Okay....unfortunately, using tape and capturing the audio with video, an offset is needed because if the computer lags a little, then the video is screwed and chopped because the audio is not with the video. I need to know a way I can offset it, I tried looking at the synchronize menu, and everything is grayed out. Vegas isn't smart enough to detect it either. I need some help please!

video editing is very demanding on resources - cpu, hdd, fragmentation such that a lot of care is exerted to ensure the quality of incoming video stream.

- defragment hdd more often - fragmented files can slow down the pc.

*If heavy on editing, use external dedicated hdd in order to reformat often. Lots of fragmentation happens most specially w/ big files like raw  DV-avi (but best for editing).

- if the cpu speed is on the limit, multi-tasking will surely  aggravate

- firewire connections must be tight... a little bump on a loose connection can hamper the video stream (often happens to me too)

- fast forward & rewind tape before recording, even new ones. as much as possible, don't re-use tapes- these are cheap ...minimize headache

Now back to the problem:

- re-capture the video again

if a/v still not in sync:

- secure another firewire cable & re-capture

if a/v still not in sync: (and re-shoot not an option)

- use AoA Audio Extractor (freeware) to xtract  audio

- mute the original audio; use the extracted audio in the  timeline

- manually sync video w/ extracted audio
