Sony announces launch day line-up for the Next Generation Portable, Uncharted: Golden Abyss confirmed
Sony’s latest handheld gaming peripheral may not have a name as yet, though that does not seem to stopping the electronics giant from announcing their launch day line up for the Next Generation Portable or NGP.
The NGP is the first handheld gaming device that will feature dual analogue sticks with the PSP only having one. This allowed developers more freedom with the kinds of games they could put out and it seems the freedom seems to have paid off, with some mouth
watering titles available from day one.
Kicking things off is WipeOut 2048, which not only looks stunning graphically but will also allow players playing on the NGP to play against players on the PlayStation 3 platform making it a true cross platform game. However, players on the PS3 will need
to own a copy of WipeOut HD fury.
The game will feature 10 new tracks as well as 20 new vehicles for players to race and battle across with and is sure to be one of the top sellers when the NGP eventually hits stores.
Another major franchise making its way on to the NGP is Uncharted: Golden Abyss. However, the title will not be developed by Naughty Dog but instead by Bend Studios who have prior experience with the handheld genre.
The game was demoed at the Tokyo game show, and left the spectators in awe at the graphics that were on display, as well as the ability to use the touch screen and pad to trigger certain actions such as climbing and crouching.
Reality Fighters may not be as well known as the other two but will blur the world on screen and reality as it will scan the player’s face and allow them to fight against others in online multiplayer battles.
Next up is the highly anticipated Little Deviants which will make full use of the ‘touch’ capabilities of the NGP as well as the microphones and camera which, according to the game’s developer, will be one to look out for.
Another title making its way to the next generation of handheld gaming is Super Stardust Delta, which was a huge hit when it first appeared on the PlayStation Store and will be available on the NGP as well.
Hustle Kings shares a common background with Super Stardust as it was another PSN title that made it big and will be making the leap to the NGP as well.
Another exciting title is Sound Shapes, which allows players to create their own levels as well as their own music. Similar to Locoroco in some aspects the game looked very promising on its Pre-E3 debut.
There is also something to cater for shooter fans, as Resistance Retribution which was originally released on the PSP will also be available on the NGP. It was developed by the same team that is currently working on Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
While no name or release date for the NGP has been confirmed, analysts are predicting that Sony’s handheld gaming device should be out by the end of the current year.
