Both applications will be back online once the consumer electronics giant rectifies the issues. No indication given as to when that might be.
The PlayStation Vita got off a reasonable start in Japan as it sold more than 300,000 units in its first week, yet since then the figures took a nose dive and have not been able to recover.
Although the official figures of the console’s European and American launch week sales figures have not been released, judging by the turnout at the midnight release at some of the major retailers, things look promising for Sony.
Amazon.com, the online retailer also had seven of its top ten ‘ordered’ items all relating to the PlayStation Vita and the Vita itself.
However, as is the case with new technology there a number of problems have begun to appear on the software side.
Firstly, is the fact that the troublesome Facebook app for the Vita has been taken offline. A statement from the company read, “The Vita Facebook application has been removed from the store.”
It continued, “It will be republished once the difficulties Facebook have experienced have been resolved.”
It also explained that there was no definite timing as to when the app would be made available again as it read, “Currently there is no timescale for this.”
Social networking was one of the major features of the Vita and the fact that the Facebook app has been taken offline will be a worry for some. Not a major worry per se, but still an annoyance that Sony could do without.
Another issue is the error that seems to appear when users launch their PlayStation Mini’s on the Vita. The games cannot be accessed and is perhaps a bigger concern than the Facebook situation.
A statement read, “We (Sony) are aware of the issue, and will resolve it as quickly as possible.”
Again no timescale was given but one can expect the features to back online soon, as Sony will want to maintain a smooth start to the Vita’s release in Western territories.
More on the story as and when it happens.
