Sony camcorder to computer?

Does anyone know of a program that can read a sony camcorder? I'm trying to get video off of it and Windows Movie Maker does not support that kind of file. Please Help!!!

  1. Which Sony camcorder?

    MiniDV and Digital8 tape requires a firewire port on your computer and a firewire cable. USB won't work. Firewire, i.LINK, DV and IEEE1394a are all the same thing.

    Hard disc drive (HDD) and flash memory use USB, but you may need to convert that highly compressed MPEG2 data file.

    DVD based camcorder require your computer to have a drawer loading DVD drive and you need to rip the video with a video ripper (like HandBrake).

    Analog - VHS, VHS-C, Beta and others require an "analog/digital bridge" like those from Pinnacle (Dazzle) or Canopus.


  2. most camcorders have a fire wire port.  this is what's needed to capture your video to your computer.  get a fire wire cable, 4 pin from your cam to 6 pin to your computer.   WMM should work just fine... in the drop down menu, look for capture video... you're on your way...
