Sony cassette stereo - No sound in the afternoons!

Question

10 year old sony cassette stereo in peugeot 306. Sound works fine in the morning. When i come back to it in afternoon, no sound at all. I can't get anything out of it until the next morning when it's fine again! Thought maybe it was to do with heat but last couple of days have been pretty mild and still same problem. Any ideas?
