Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that one of WarHawk’s most loved features will be implemented in its long awaited sequel.
There was a time when multiplayer gaming on consoles meant two or more controllers controlling two or more players on two or more screens within the same television on the same console. Split-screen gaming was ‘where it was at’ and many of the previous generation
of gamers will remember with fondness.
The split-screen gaming trend seems to be making a comeback with Killzone 3, Resistance 3 and other titles catering to the ‘two players on the same console’ need. The Call of Duty series have always advocated and provided this feature in their games and
developed that from simple co-op campaigns to the new trends just as Spec Ops and n**i Zombies.
WarHawk, one of the PlayStation 3’s launch titles, featured four-player split-screen co-op when it was released. The game quickly garnered cult status and was a favourite among the early PlayStation 3 gamers.
Sony unveiled StarHawk last year and interest in the game has been growing steadily. It is set to reach even higher levels once gamers find out about the fact that Sony has implemented the split-screen gaming in StarHawk.
There is a catch, actually there are two catch-es; the first is that although two gamers can use separate PSN accounts to earn XP, the second player will not be able to unlock any item that needs to be saved on the console.
The second catch is the fact that StarHawk will not feature four-player split-screen gaming will only accommodate two players on the same console. The reason given by Sony was the fact that the four-player split-screen was not used enough in WarHawk to warrant
a place in the sequel.
A statement read, “"We thought about it a lot and decided not to go this route; based on our data, not enough people ever used four-player split-screen in Warhawk so we concentrated our efforts in other areas, such as making two-player just plain better."
StarHawk looks set to be another strong exclusive title under the PlayStation exclusive banner yet the only time we will be able to make that claim for sure is when the game eventually releases.
