I have a sony digital camcorder, and I love making movies on it with movie maker. But the problem is, we just bought an iMac and the Imagemixer cd doesn't work on our iMac. Could anyone tell me if there's a product like that that works for the Mac?

  1. If you wanna make movies on a Mac computer, all you have to do is open iMovie, which is a software that comes with the Mac. It's a lot better than Windows Movie Maker. Trust me.

  2. asdfjkl is correct - but you might need to get some other stuff - you did not tell us WHICH Sony digital camcorder you got...

==> MiniDV or Digital8 tape: You need a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable to connect the camcorder's DV port to the Mac's firewire400 port. All Macs made in the last 10 years or so have a firewire 400 port. The only exception is the new MacBook Air (no firewire port). Regular standard definition DV will import to iMovie just fine... If you are importing high definition HDV, you need to to a custom install of the Apple Intermediate code from your Mac's system discs.

==> Hard drive or flash memory: This will transfer using USB. Fore standard def, very highly compressed MPEG2 files, you need to download, install and use StreamClip

to translate the files into something iMovie can use.

If the camcorder does very high compression AVCHD for high definition video, you need to have an Intel-Mac and you need to be running iMovieHD08.

==> DVD camcorder: NEVER put an 8cm disc in a slot loader (Mac or PC). For standard defintion DVDs, you can finalize the disc (if it needs it, put the disc in the drawer loading DVD drive, download, install and use HandBrake

If slot loader DVD drive, get a drawer loader (I like LaCie).
